How the Taon X works:

Horses can only perceive light and dark contrasts, similar to a thermal imaging camera, and are not attracted to odors like bees or wasps. Accordingly, horses' bodies, heated by the sun in summer, are a popular target for them. But thanks to the "Taon X" horsefly trap, this is now a thing of the past. The dark ball in the middle of the trap symbolizes the hindquarters of a horse and heats up in the sun. To further increase its attractiveness, the protective screen is in a contrasting white to demarcate the supposed horse's rear end. The horsefly cannot resist and is attracted by the heated black ball. As soon as it has flown towards the supposed victim, it tries to find a suitable place to bite. The horsefly then realizes that it has been mistaken and that the heated ball is not an animal body part and tries to fly away. This is where its lack of aerial acrobatics proves to be its downfall: the horsefly can only fly upwards and is guided by the protective screen into the attached trap. Here it is now trapped and cannot escape. Afterwards, only the container with the trapped horseflies needs to be emptied, and the animals can spend time undisturbed in the pasture.
