The Hori Hori knife first appeared in Japan in the Middle Ages, around the 13th or 14th century. The word 'hori' means 'to dig' in Japanese. With its curved blade, it is suitable for digging or cutting. The blade is razor-sharp and serrated for cutting through roots and heavy soil. It can be used as a knife, saw, digging tool, for transplanting young plants, or as a measuring aid for planting flower bulbs (with cm and inch markings for planting depth).
